NEWTON, Mass. — Pulitzer Prize winning author David McCullough has a suggestion for what young people can do for their country.
"Please, please do what you can to cure the verbal virus that seems increasingly rampant among your generation," McCullough implored Boston College's class of 2008 at commencement ceremonies Monday. He said he's particularly troubled by the "relentless, wearisome use of words" such as like, awesome and actually.
"Just imagine if in his inaugural address John F. Kennedy had said, 'Ask not what your country can, you know, do for you, but what you can, like, do for your country actually," he said. Graduates apparently thought his speech was, like, awesome. They gave him a standing ovation.

The Rookie
Scott completed his first Triathlon this weekend - The Rookie (1 part swim, 1 part (bigger part) bike, finished with a 2 mile run). If it weren’t for the longer than anticipated transitions, he would have finished within his goal time. Hard to estimate how long it takes to change from one outfit to the next – my average is 20-30 minutes most mornings.
Good job Scott! Onto the next one...
Single Girl P.S. - I recommend supporting your local triathlon. Athletic men in Speedos and their age written on their calves - at least you'd know which age group you were playing in...

They KILLED a Horse!

Eight Belles, the first filly in many years, Placed in the 2008 Kentucky Derby. Immediately crossing the finish, the filly then collapsed with two broken ankles and was euthanized on the spot.
Besides the obvious objections of whipping horses, racing fillies against colts, racing American thoroughbreds too young and pushing the animals to succeed in lieu of injuries (cause let's face it, that horse was probably hurt before the finish line and she kept going), all this aside...
This was the worst sporting event I have ever watched.
(Of course, I did miss the now infamous Holyfield-Tyson earbiting event because it was my 21-run)
Sorry to those who watch the Derby as a time honored tradition, but no julep or dressing like a douchebag is worth watching a horse go down.
